Wellness
The Developing Famiiles Center is committed to wellness promotion for our clients and neighborhood. In the interest of creating a healthier community and reducing childhood obesity, we offer events and programs for the community at no charge. We have made many changes within and outside our building to encourage fitness and good nutrition (see below).
Please see our events calendar for wellness classes and programs.

Community Playground Build
KaBoom Playgrounds and the National Academies helped the DFC plan, fund, and build a playground on a formerly unused area outside our building. On the day of the build in June 2009, over 200 volunteers from the National Academies, the DFC, and the surrounding community pitched in to construct a beautiful new place for children to play.
DFC Garden
The Developing Families Center started a garden in the spring of 2009 to promote healthier eating and outdoor green space for our community. We have planted a variety of vegetables, fruits, and flowers to be shared and enjoyed by the DFC community.
Interested in gardening or growing your own food? Join us on Thursday afternoons from 4:00-6:00pm to learn about gardening, help maintain the DFC garden, and take home some fresh vegetables. The garden is located on the north side of our building along I (eye) Street. For more information, contact Holly at (202) 398-5520 or wellness@yourfhbc.org.
